At first I thought that was actually just bolted to his bumper

No support bar above th e bumper? I would not worry for your Civic.

You have a Civic? Since when? Judging by the door handles it’s a facelifted 9th gen, or 2013-2015.

2013. It’s my wife’s car, but she is taking the van these days so my son can practice his driving. It’s comfortable, and  handles fairly well, but the engine is absolutely gutless. All sound and fury signifying nothing.

God it looks terrible. Probably functional but terrible. Wish I could see it from the front.

Ah I’m surprised I actually got it right. These look pretty nice and would be a great first car/car to learn on. Before getting the CR-V we were about to get a 2013 Civic EX. You should have him drive the Odyssey, I’ve driven ours quite often and from learning a lot on that boat, going to a smaller car is satisfying and I feel like I have total control over it as opposed to the big lumbering van. Though that V6 can really pull, not gonna lie. Nice.

I’d rather stay to the side of this battering ram.

This is the EX. It’s very nice, not gonna lie. Just needs more powah. After we get back from vacation, I will have him drive the van and learn both. The V-6 in our Oddy (a donor engine that went in 100k miles ago) has some really nice grunt, especially at the higher end when doing emergency accelerations at highway speed or while merging. I really enjoy driving it.

That’s also why my mom loves driving ours. I see yours is the 2nd gen; be VERY   careful with the transmission. These V6/auto Hondas of that era starting late ‘90s and going until the mid ‘00s are notorious for having transmission failures among other things. Unfortunately yours is one of the exact models/model years that were affected heavily. Other than that, it’s a great car. Funny how the transmission/V6 woes supposedly ended in the mid ‘00s; our ‘13 Odyssey was recently in the shop for like 2.5 months because of transmission failure and suspension and engine mounts and so much more.

It’s probably held on with just two low grade bolts. Rarely are they fully  attached as recommended. Flex piece. I’m sure that driver routinely finds himself in ‘brush’ that should be ‘guarded’ against.

Had the transmission rebuilt last fall. I got 197k miles out of the first one, so I think that’s pretty good. We’re also on our second engine. The first one blew a head gasket at about 115k, and it was more cost effective to replace the whole lump (it’s actually a very long story, and I got a great deal on the replacement). We are looking to get a new-to-us van, but I’m not sure I want a newer Oddy.
